Horizon Christian Fellowship began in 1988 as a simple five-person Bible study. It quickly outgrew Bill and Vi’s living room and moved to a location on Haverstick Road in July of 1988. Continued growth gave opportunity to rent and then purchase the present 98 acre campus on Indian Lake Road in July of 1991.
Many principles guided its growth. The Lord spoke specifically to Bill that they should “not leave the children and youth behind,” they were to serve & feed the Word to people from cradle to grave, and that they had been given the property for use. Thus, a driving force at Horizon is enabling and effecting this vision however God leads. The facility itself bears this mark; it’s why a gym was built before a sanctuary.
Since inception, Horizon has seen over 20 church plants birthed out within the United States and internationally. Campus accommodates many ministries: Camp Indy, a day camp which runs throughout the summer; Horizon Christian School for students pre-kindergarten through high school; Calvary Chapel Bible College, a two-year intensive program; Horizon University, an accredited program; church ministries for every life stage including Awana and youth, & more.
After 34 faithful years, the Lord directed Bill & Vi to pass on their role in the church in summer of 2022 to Jordan McGaughey. Hindsight easily sees the preparation of the Lord; Jordan came first to the Bible college in 2005 and then was involved in nearly every ministry in the years that followed, including directing Camp Indy, youth pastoring for seven years, running home fellowships, college groups, family ministry, teaching and coaching in HCS, and many more.
As we look to the future and endeavor to follow the Lord’s command, we are ever mindful of the great responsibility the Lord has given us as overseers of this property and facilities of Horizon Christian Fellowship and the great privilege to serve young and old alike to the Glory of Jesus Christ. We’re determined to ever more walk closely with Christ, represent Him faithfully to the world, and build up one another by every means the Lord directs.
