Scions
Scions
The Scion program is Camp Indy’s counselor-in-training program for 13-15 year olds.
Scion (plural scions)
- A descendant; a son or daughter
- A detached shoot or twig containing buds from a woody plant; used in grafting
- The heir to a throne
- Also used as a synonym to “guardian”
Did you know that, if you have given your life to Jesus, you are not only a son or daughter of God, but you are a child of the King of kings? That is truly amazing! Think about it; chew on it for awhile. According to Ephesians 1:5, God has adopted you as His child and it was His delight to choose you! If we are descendants of Jesus, we are God’s “Scions.”
Are you too old to be a camper and too young to be a counselor?
How would you like to have an amazing summer here at Camp Indy! Why not? This is a cool way to spend your summer: growing in Jesus, learning from counselors, hanging out with kids and sharing the love of Jesus with them.
How old is a Scion at Camp Indy?
13-15 years old. “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few…” Our desire is to train young workers and equip them to minister to their peers. The experiences and knowledge gained from such a foundational time as this can positively impact the course of your life!
What is it?
As a Scion, you will learn many details of camp counseling. Scions will be trained together all day Monday. Then Tuesday-Friday, they will be placed alongside a capable “lead counselor” with their camps. Scions will have an off campus group activity each week, typically on Thursdays! This activity will vary week to week. Scions will be encouraged to grow and walk in their leadership responsibilities. They will be trained with their fellow Scions throughout the week both in and out of their camps. Daily activities may also include assisting their assigned counselor, swimming, All Camp Mania, snack, and cool group.
It is a privilege to be a Scion. You will have the opportunity to be trained up and equipped for more than camp, you will be trained for what life brings. You are expected to be an example to the young campers and everyone around you. If you do not live up to this example, you are not guaranteed to walk as a Scion. Spaces are limited.
What time?
Scions should be present for the entirety of the camp day, starting with drop off between 8:00-8:15am and pick up between 4:15-5:00pm.
Scions may also opt in to join for staff devotionals each morning at 7:45am in the fireside room beside the cafeteria. This is optional, but if desiring to go, please arrive promptly to be seated by 7:45am.
How much is it?
The cost is $150.00 per week.
Sign Up/Application
Camp Indy has reinstated Scion Applications this year! Our goal with the application process is that Scions would start the counselor training process from the beginning, highlighting the responsibility that this role carries.
Because of the very limited spaces available in this program each week, and the increasing demand, we are limiting the amount of registered weeks throughout the summer. On the application, you will be required to select your top four week choices as well as any remaining weeks that you would like to be contacted if spaces become available. We will work to try and place each scion in their preferred weeks, however we cannot guarantee that spots will be available.
How it works:
- Both Scion applicant and parent work together to fill out a scion application here:
- Create an account or log in to our registration portal here. Make sure that your Scion is a part of your household for the 2025 season.
-
-
- Please note: you will not be able to register for anything yet. If your application is received, reviewed, and selected, we will contact you and manually register you for your selected weeks.
-
-
- Application is received, reviewed, and selected. We will contact you to confirm week(s) for the summer and we will manually register you on the registration portal. You should expect contact within 10 business days!
